Apple wallet ads
Tech Crunch report iPhone customers upset by Apple Wallet ad pushing ‘F1’ movie:
Apple customers aren’t thrilled they’re getting an ad from the Apple Wallet app promoting the tech giant’s original film “F1 the Movie.”1
People remember the U2 album fiasco:
And over 10 years later, people are still complaining about the U2 album that automatically appeared in their iTunes music library.
Turn out iOS 26 (the upcoming release currently in beta test) has an option to opt-out of ads in the wallet:
The addition of the new control toggle in iOS 26 suggests that Apple plans to push more marketing messages and promotions through the Wallet app in the future — something many iPhone users won’t appreciate.
That’s right YOU have to take action to not get these ads instead of take action to receive them. Apple, there is still time to change this before user trust erode further. But keep in mind somebody is getting a promotion for this.
I imagine people unhappy with that will switch mobile platform… Just kidding given the current situation, it’s unlileky as the other side is as bad if not worse. And unlike in a web browse like Firefox, it’s quasi-impossible to get ad blocking working in that context.
As per the law:
Every piece of software will evolve beyond its intended purpose to sell you something.
