AI enabled toy: danger!
CNN reports that Sales of AI-enabled teddy bear suspended after it gave advice on BDSM sex and where to find knives:
Sales of an artificial intelligence-enabled plush toy have been suspended after it was found that it engaged in conversation around sexually explicit topics and offered potentially dangerous advice.
No one could have predicted this. #sarcasm
A stuffed teddy with a speaker inside, which was sold on the company’s website for $99, “Kumma” integrates OpenAI’s GPT-4o chatbot.
For $99 you get Ted except it doesn’t move and likely not funny.
But this is not the only case.
Futurism also tells us that AI-Powered Toys Caught Telling 5-Year-Olds How to Find Knives and Start Fires With Matches:
After testing three different toys powered by AI, researchers from the US Public Interest Research Group found that the playthings can easily verge into risky conversational territory for children, including telling them where to find knives in a kitchen and how to start a fire with matches. One of the AI toys even engaged in explicit discussions, offering extensive advice on sex positions and fetishes.
Ho ho ho ! Someone is on Santa’s naughty list.
The upside is when in 25 years the kids find their parent teddy bear, it’s unlikley they’ll work as the tech will no longer be functional.
