Commodore 64 Ultimate
Sean Heber talk about his experience with the Commodore 64 Ultimate:
The C64U is a nearly flawless execution and all of the attention to detail with the box, the manual, the keyboard, and the ports have combined into something truly special, I think.
His story is what retro computing is about. From all I could read is that the goal of the Commodore 64 Ultimate was to provide a modern recreation of the C64, but trying to preserve as much of the experience, without having to have all that retro hardware, and according to the store, it seems to be successful.
So many bits are obsolete: cassette and floppy disk to load software, analogue display (even current LCD monitors don’t have analogue video input anymore). So obsolete that it is necessary to provide an upgrade. The C64U works around those issue by offering HDMI output and USB device support to emulate a floppy or tape, while trying to retain the experience. A lot of similar devices where crafted by the community to use on vintage C64. Funnily most of these features require more computing power than the original Commodore 64 ever offered.
