PageMaker
GeekWire reports that PageMaker pioneer Paul Brainerd, and Aldus founder has died:
Paul Brainerd, who went on to coin the term “desktop publishing” and build Aldus Corporation’s PageMaker into one of the defining programs of the personal computer era, died Sunday
Paul Brainerd obituary encompass the history a PageMaker, which was the singularity application software that made the Macintosh a successfull computer.
In 1985 Apple devised the Macintosh Office with Apple and Steve Jobs investing in Adobe and their product PostScript. Apple would sell the LaserWriter for the Macintosh, a laser printer with PostScript in it. Around the same time, Aldus Corporation, a small startup, developped PageMaker. PageMaker wouldn’t have existed without the LaserWriter, and the Macintosh may not have survived, being the premier desktop publishing platform.
Aldus also invented TIFF, an image file format that is still widely used.
Later, in 1994, Aldus got bought by Adobe who still dominate the field as printing is in decline.
