AI is ecocide

Politico Europe tells us Europe must choose between AI and climate goals, data center lobby says; or so the industry says:

Tech sector says only carbon-emitting gas plants are reliable enough today to power the EU’s AI goals.

They want to burn more green house gas emetting fuel to produce the vast amounts of electricity needed to power the chatbots. So when the AI industry tells you they need that energy, believe them. When someone tells you the use of AI is “destroying the planet”, believe them too. To be accurate it is destroying what make the planet livable, faster than ever. And this comes at a time where Europe (among other regions) is having its second heatwave just a few days past the solstice summer.

And this doesn’t yet mention the water use.

This is for an industry balooning into huge losses, fictional money, and lies. For a product that everyone hate so much that C-suite force it on people: “use it or be fired”, and use it as an excuse to destroy labour with large layoffs.

The use of AI is an ecocide. And I seem to talk too much about this, but it’s important.
