Massive Win for Farmers

iFixit reports John Deere Settles with the FTC in Massive Win for Farmers:

The deal does something farmers have been demanding for more than a decade, forcing Deere to give farmers and independent repair shops the same repair software and diagnostic access it hands its authorized dealers. Huzzah!

Finally. The deal is the FTC so the jurisdiction is the US. So that doesn’t mean elsewhere it will be easy to get but it surely open things for the right to repair the equipement farmers own. FWIW they charge US$1700 for a repair manual, even as a download, let’s hope this is deemed unreasonable by the FTC.

This FTC settlement is a follow up on the one from April including codifying an enforcement.
