BMW Blasts Ads
Futurism reports that BMW Suddenly Blasts Its Cars’ Internal Screens With Aggressive Advertisements:
Starting last week, the German automaker started blasting a promotion for the new Spider-Man movie into its customers’ cars without warning
The Law applies here. The car display is not an advertising display. Yet…
— because nothing says riding in luxury like a full-vehicle pop-up ad. BMW, showing that it was about as in-touch as its drivers are familiar with turn signals, teased the promotion as a “special surprise.”
No one is amused by this. Definitely not BMW owners. It’s so bad that this made it to Hollywood Reporter: BMW Owners Angry ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Ads Are Suddenly in Their Cars: “F*** This”. The fact it that was a movie advertisment is probably not foreign to being reported by HR.
Back in 2023, Marketing Daily reported BMW Exec: No Plans To Sell In-Vehicle Ads:
“At the end of the day, I think your car is your last private space,” Durach told a small group of media members last week during a roundtable discussion. “It’s where you can do whatever you want by yourself – you have the right temperature, the music you want. To say I’m selling the screen to play a commercial – I don’t see it. It’s a private space.”
Either that person no longer work there, or they changed their mind to make a quick buck (the third option isn’t nice at all).
BMW is no stranger in trying to make a quick buck. They were the only manufacturer wanting to charge for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. They also wanted to charge a subscription fee for heated seat and steering wheel (the hardware was already installed). They somewhat backed out of these after customer backlash.
May the push back continue so that BMW get blasted.
